This week’s catalogue farewell’s summer and leads us into the start of Autumn. Time flies when you’re in a global pandemic! Despite the hardships, Australian farmers are still producing beautiful produce and here at Bernardi’s Market Place, we love to support them by ensuring our shelves are stocked with their product.
While chilli season comes to an end in February and the need for them becomes more prevalent in the cooler months, a great idea is to freeze our fiery friends. Grate them over your laksas, stir fries, scrambled eggs (anything really) for a fresh hit of heat. Lebanese cucumbers are still in their prime and just $1.49 each this week. Wonderful ribboned into your lunch wraps or side salads. Eggplant, zucchini, Asian greens and pumpkin will be standouts this early Autumn.
You may have noticed the return of apples. New season Gala apples and Williams pears are now at their best. These work wonderfully on their own, in salads with toasted walnuts as well as the humble fruit crumble. Thompson seedless grapes are still singing with sweetness and just $3.99 a kg this week. The fictitious fig season has emerged and knowing these little gems, won’t last long! Make the most of them while they won’t cost you an arm and a leg. Grilled figs with a bit of honey and a scoop of vanilla ice cream (Sara Lee is currently half price) will bring smiles all round.
That’s it for this week. We’d love to see your seasonal creations at home. Be sure to tag @bernardis_marketplace on Instagram.
